Arrivals into the departure city of Boston. There is no better way to get a sense of the Revolutionary struggle that changed U.S.A.’s destiny than with a stroll along Boston’s Freedom Trail. Along the way: Paul Revere House, Old North Church, the Old State House and Faneuil Hall, gathering place of the early revolutionaries. Farther afield: Lexington Green, where the minutemen and redcoats first skirmished, and bewitching Salem.

Corner Brook, Newfoundland | Canada
Nestled on the rocky coastline of the Long Range Mountains of Canada, Corner Brook is home to a thriving community of artists inspired by the areas incredible natural beauty. In town, browse the galleries of local painters, sculptors and photographers, explore the heritage district and view the Captain James Cook Memorial, honoring the British navigator who explored and charted the area in 1767.

Red Bay, Labrador | Canada
A Canadian National Historic Site, Red Bay is rich in 16th century whaling history. In the late 1500s ships sailed to Red Bay from the Basque Provinces of France and Spain to hunt right and bowhead whales. Today, Red Bay hosts a collection of exceptional artifacts, including the best-preserved examples of 16th century ships and boats known in the world. Tour the Visitor Interpretation Centre; immerse yourself in Labrador’s rugged coastal beauty; and enjoy an iceberg and whale watching tour.

Nanortalik | Greenland
Greenland’s southernmost town, Nanortalik is surrounded by the steep mountain peaks of Tasermiut Fjord whose rugged landscape and lush vegetation attracts serious climbers all year long. Inside the fjord are the ruins of an Augustinian monastery and the towering trees of the Qingua Valley. In this region, the northern lights dance across the sky in the evenings and polar bears have been known to drift by on ice floes. Visit the old town around the colonial harbor where the museum includes exhibits of rare Norse clothing. This harbor is thought to be the last point of departure of the Norse voyagers when they sailed to or from Greenland. The importance of the site is evidenced in the ruins of boathouses. Take a chilly trip to the ice cap by boat, or warm up in the natural hot springs at Uunartoq.

With a history of trading that dates back to 1589, this quiet fishing village on the eastern coast of Iceland lies on Bulandsnes peninsula near Bulandstindura – a pyramid-shaped mountain thought to be a source of spiritual energy. Visit Langabud, a log house built in 1790, which also houses the local folk museum, or journey to Papey Island, home to thousands of sea birds, including the colorful puffin.
