DAY 2              GRIZZLY TOUR (B,L,D)

In the wild and pristine region of Western Canada’s Pacific Northwest, a select few travelers are afforded the incomparable thrill of close encounters with some of North America’s most impressive creatures - massive grizzly bears.  Each fall, in Knight Inlet, millions of salmon making their final spawning run turn crystal waters dark, attracting dozens of giant grizzlies who gather at the spawning channels to fatten their already massive bodies in preparation for the imminent winter freeze.   It is here where giant males, sows and cubs and solitary sub adults gather in the river feeding endlessly on the protein rich salmon. Bald eagles, grebes, Marbled Murlets, loons, herons and many others are frequently seen.  We will depart at 6:00 am for a full day Grizzly Bear program up Knight Inlet to Glendale Cove. Lunch included.  Dinner on return to the lodge.

DAY 3              SEA OTTERS, GRAY WHALES & BLACK BEARS (B,L)

Our Sea Otter, Gray Whale and Black Bear tour takes place out of Zeballos, a sleepy little town on the west coast.  This day features spectacular coastal scenery different to the sheltered waters off Telegraph Cove experienced the day before. The Northwest coast of Vancouver Island hosts, a well-established sea otter colony.  After these marine mammals were hunted to almost extinction, this is one of the few remaining places on the west coast to view them.  The Sea Otters are observed in large groups called “rafts”, swimming together or wading in their protective kelp beds enjoying a meal of fresh crabs and sea urchins.  The Sea Otters are often curious and sometimes approach the zodiacs boat.  There are unique coastal birds, resident Gray Whales and often migrating Humpback whales that pass by.  The area is known for high concentrations of Black Bear.  A quiet approach is necessary when viewing the bears as humans are scarce in this part of the island.

OPTION PRE OR POST TOUR IN THE JOHNSTONE STRAIT

The famed Johnstone Strait, is world renowned as the very best spot for viewing killer whales in the wild.  Upon arrival, we are often rewarded with close encounters with pods of these magnificent animals, along with porpoises and  large numbers of playful Pacific white-sided dolphins.
